The Practicality of Things

The Practicality of Things

~~~~oOo~~~~
To everyone,
Last Saturday, I shared the following:
“Everyone’s attention and support is invited at this time, since there is less than $65 in the Foundation’s bank account, first-of-the-month obligations have not been paid, and the 20th is eleven days away with $8,500 due—more than usual because the full amount could not be paid on the 20th, in February.”
Today, as we near the 20th, the practicality of things is that $2,033 have been received—and thank you very much to each of you who made that possible! These funds covered some of the first-of-the-month bills, but left insurance premiums and internet services unpaid which are due today, utility and phone services subject to interruption in the next few days, plus the garbage bill, fuel for the car, and bringing Paul current on his paychecks . . . among other things.
This is working too close to the nub for comfort.
By now it is clear to everyone that the fundamental premise, the bottom-line operational principle, the practicality of things in everything we do . . . is Gift. It has been for over thirty years.
Why?
Because the threshold of Atonement, the threshold of Awakening, the threshold of coming back into one’s right Mind, is a Gift. It is the gift of forgiveness. It is the gift of the actual act of looking into your brother’s face and remembering God instead of seeing your brother’s definition of himself or your definition of him.
The simple fact is that you may be able to buy the book, A Course in Miracles, but you cannot be paid for engaging in what the book teaches, because it teaches forgiveness. Together, Paul, Susan and I are engaged in the Gift of forgiveness . . . “giving for” . . . expressing the Voice for Truth in spite of and as replacement for the voice for fear. Only Love can motivate that. And it is only Love which can inspire and motivate all of the Brotherhood to engage in that forgiveness. That’s why.
The fact is that the call to forgiveness, specifically and only as it relates to relationships with one’s fellow man . . . the Brotherhood . . . is a difficult thing to be aroused by. It is a wake-up call which the ego wants to repeatedly hit the snooze button to avoid. And if we had made everything available for a price, as a transaction of equivalencies, creating a sensation of balance, it wouldn’t have clearly made an ongoing demand or “ego irritation” pointing to the only experiential access to Atonement there is (the practice of the holy instant), while simultaneously promoting the experience—and engaging everyone in Awakening!
Now, the contributions received in the amount of $2,033 were made by twenty-two individuals—again, thank you to each of you—either from our email list or from our visitors, both here and on The Gathering Place. Yet, the mailing list and the presence of those coming daily to our website is significantly greater than twenty-two—great enough, in fact, for the practical needs of this work to be accomplished easily when it’s remembered that acts of Brotherly love, not just thoughts, are what embody and anchor Reality “on earth, as it is in Heaven”—in one’s experience as it is in one’s holy Mind.
This is the practicality of things. It is what the Course directs one’s attention to and focuses one’s intent upon. “Listen, learn and . . . do.” It teaches about Atonement. It teaches about the holy instant. It teaches about the Holy Spirit being nothing more than your right mind. And it teaches that everyone must bring them together in the conscious, humble, and permanent act of forgiveness.
Everything we are doing is about “bringing them together.” And no matter what the ego says, our constant invitation is not indicative of “a failed endeavor,” of “something being attempted before its time,” or of “an unnecessarily complicated way of doing something that would be less demanding if it were truly divine.”
It’s perfect.
P.S. It serves no purpose for Susan and Paul to meet this day, or any other day with the potential of basic services being interrupted, of missing a payment for a legitimate and basic expense, with the consequences that follow, and yet at this moment, that is the day ahead.
It needn’t be.
