A Call to Reason!
Very simply put, things are at a standstill. And so I want to take a moment to share something which needs to be said.
Invitations of support are far from fundraising efforts to increase the wealth of the Foundation or make Paul and Susan rich. They are made because there is nothing, or nearly nothing in the Foundation’s bank account to cover basic functional needs — like the phone bill, electricity bill, internet expenses, and a regular weekly paycheck for Paul, etc. Those kinds of things!
The fact that the sending of invitations is almost continuous indicates an ongoing stringent way of functioning that actually takes extreme patience, courage and fearlessness on the part of Paul and Susan as they repeatedly walk up to obligations which somebody has to be responsible for . . . it’s them . . . and arriving within 24 hours or less of the payment dates unable to meet them, having to stay in their peace, and somehow find the capacity to engage in the actual activities of the work we do in spite of the daily trips to the post office and bank — a thirty-mile round trip — to make sure everything doesn’t come to a complete halt.
It’s unreasonable! And it’s not what I ask them to do.
I am aware that many of you find the repeated invitations wearing and offputting. But I would ask you to wonder if having to make them might be likewise wearing and in some ways offputting, or even discouraging. Some have even suggested that they don’t understand why I don’t do something miraculous to make it easier for Paul and Susan . . . which really means, why have I set things up so that everyone is called into the act of caring? And, of course, it’s because I’m here to inspire and promote Brotherhood — not as an idea, but as behavior inspired by Love instead of fear and self-protection. That is the “something miraculous” I am doing . . . not to make it easier for Paul and Susan, but easier for everyone who dares to make that shift, even in the smallest of ways.
Part of the shift from self-protection involves the realization that you’ll never be done with caring. Unlike the finishing phrase that says, “I GAVE AT THE OFFICE,” you will never be able to say, “I CARED” and be through with it! And so, it means saying “Yes” to an interminable gifting involvement with your fellow man, which only seemed to be wearing when you were misled into thinking that autonomous self-sufficiency was the God-ordained answer, both for you and everyone else.
Since yesterday twelve contributions have been received, amounting to $619 — significantly less than the amount needed to fulfill the obligation due on the 20th. Then, one day later on the 21st, fulfillment will continue to be the order of the day. Nothing will have changed. Caring will continue to be the fundamental Nature of what makes all things new. And so, $2,351 is still needed to meet the obligation of the 20th. The need for $1,500 will immediately follow for other obligations coming due, and Paul has only received one paycheck so far this month.
Again, thank you to those who have responded to these invitations. Your help, whether it seems large or small, is significant, and I am inviting everyone to join with us in making the gift. With it, we all have. And without it . . . is not an option.
