Slow-Motion Miracles

Slow-Motion Miracles

~~~~oOo~~~~
MIRACLES HAPPENING in slow motion can be tedious, no matter how extraordinary they are. And if you are part of those miracles, cynicism can creep in and cause you to wonder just how miraculous they really are. After all, the Course says that a miracle is a “sudden shift of perception,” and so, if a miracle isn’t instantaneous, it must not be a miracle! But that’s like saying, if a shift of perception isn’t sudden, it must not be a shift of perception at all!
Sometimes “Aha’s” are big ones. Sometimes they are small. But they all have one thing in common: They are all sudden! Sometimes when one listens for the Voice for Truth, the Voice is heard slowly, simply, almost methodically. And at other times it rolls off the end of one’s tongue. Is one more meaningful than the other? Does it even matter? Of course not! At other times there is a learning involved which requires letting go of presently-valued concepts as they are replaced by the miraculous — by “Aha’s!” — and arriving at them feels drawn out and tedious.
So, what is the key? The key is persistence in Listening, persisting in engaging in the holy instant — the practice of becoming still, asking for help, and then being the full-open consciousness which is the invitation to the miracle . . . no matter how big or small, no matter whether tediously slow or instantaneously fast. The intent to give voice to the Voice for Truth, and then listening for It with devotion is the key.
Now, the above paragraphs have taken Paul almost three hours to hear and transcribe. That is called tedious. That is called slow. And it is because there is learning involved, learning to persist in hearing what he doesn’t want to hear . . . another invitation of help in meeting the need. In addition, it is because learning is involved with respect to his concept that no one wants to hear another invitation any more than he wants to deliver one. He is having to learn that preconceptions of that sort get in the way of simply acknowledging need — which is essential to experiencing need met — and then sharing it.
I need to say that the reason there are so many invitations on this website — a website devoted to A Course in Miracles — is because Brotherhood is the essential ingredient of the Atonement, of Awakening, and Brotherhood involves seeing a brother’s need and meeting it. The Course refers to it as “looking into your brother’s eyes and remembering God.”
Doing this is a miracle . . .
. . . because it requires a shift of perception from self-sufficiency — better known as independence and valued privacy — to the involvement of love, and the unashamed recognition that you dearly need each other if you are ever to know your Self and, like the independent Prodigal, come Home . . . but not alone!
THERE IS AN IDEA BEING promoted in the world today that truth doesn’t matter . . . but that’s nothing new! It has always been inherent in the “human condition,” since the fundamental element of the divorce from the Father — the Fall — was the decision to join with another in determining the meaning of everything separate and apart from the Meaning God was giving it.
Everything that followed was therefore a biased perception of Creation. A hidden disregard for Truth — Maya, illusion, misperception. However, at this point, the act which obscured the illusory nature of the “human condition,” is blatantly exposing itself in the words, “Truth doesn’t matter” — words which are finding their way into print, as well as broadcast news, and are being demonstrated on social media as constantly shifting “facts” and “values.”
The effect of presenting and promoting Truth as meaningless is confusion, doubt, insecurity and fear . . . and one’s willingness to think without me secures his own little seat in this unreal world. That is why it is not insignificant that you bring your thoughts to me as we walk out of the world of obscurity together. Your miracle is the daily practice of staying by my side, thought by thought, asking, “What does this mean?” “What does that mean?” moment by moment, for now, and now, and now. This is how you participate in the salvation of the world — right through the center of your Being — as you share with our Brothers the Truth I am sharing with you.
Be willing to do what it takes for your Brother, and your Self as well. Your devotion to Truth is always relevant and Its Meaningfulness is a comfort felt by all.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE whose support has met the unusually large needs during the months of October, November and December. It has been a slow-motion miracle in motion!
As I shared in an earlier post, there is still a need for $3,500 to cover the remainder of the property tax due on December 31st — this coming Monday. And once again a new, more substantial penalty will be assessed if payment is not received by that date. An additional $1,500 is urgently needed to cover current expenses before the new month begins, and I am thanking everyone in advance for the part you play in the miracle.
