Where Love is Found
The 20th is now four days away.
The outstanding obligation of $5,000 which must be met by that day has now been reduced by contributions which have been received and applied to the amount due, leaving a balance of $3,825. Because it is an obligation which has no grace period, the invitation to everyone is being made again in order to avoid penalties for non-payment.
It takes all of us together to embody and magnify Brotherhood, to actually become involved with each other in the language of Love through acts which are Gifts made for no other reason than caring. That is the central “platform,” if you will, of what I am teaching, what A Course in Miracles makes clear in its exposition of the purpose, practice and effect of the holy instant, and is why I persistently elaborate, expand upon, and insist on there being no charges associated with this work.
I am aware that this does not feel natural or easy, while self-sufficiency and independence do. “What does it hurt to engage in commerce to spread the Word?” “What does it hurt for someone to have to pay his own way?” “It builds character and respect for oneself and others.”
Well, it’s not true. It destroys character, causes respect to become meaningless, and justifies keeping others at a distance by requiring them to “take care of themselves.” What it builds is insulation against intimacy. It not only makes it easy to forget how to care, it makes love unnecessary and actually counterproductive to the goals of self-actualization, authority, superiority, and ultimately “power.” That’s what it hurts!
I don’t mind repeating the truth. I don’t mind refreshing the ideas which actually promote changes of perception — miracles. I don’t mind if what I’m saying is misunderstood and objected to, because the truth of what Brotherhood is all about is the stepping-stone back Home. And so I will continue to magnify It and promote changes in behavior which may initially feel awkward and unworkable because current mindsets do not comprehend that unity, not independence, is strength; that needing each other, not self-sufficiency, is the threshold of safety and unvulnerability. Why? Because they are where Love is found.
So, there is a need. Three thousand, eight-hundred twenty-five dollars! It needs to be paid by the 20th. This Saturday. It is that which meets the need of Brotherhood here and now. It may not be what’s needed tomorrow, but there is one thing we can all count on: tomorrow, Brotherhood WILL call upon all of us for something — some real, in-the-world acts of involvement — which will replace the independence that would proudly and arrogantly build walls and make those on the other side pay for it . . . isolate “us” from “them” . . . tell others to take care of themselves . . . justify self-righteousness . . . and call “hate” and “lies” a freedom of expression that “nobody should get upset about.”
We will promote Brotherhood!
