How Do You Restore Brotherhood?

How Do You Restore
Brotherhood?

———oOo———

Dear friends,

Yesterday I shared the following:

“This Movement, this remembering, is growing around your globe, in spite of the apparent evidence to the contrary. And calm courage, quiet persistence of attention to Truth—and giving voice to It—needs not only to continue, but to increase.

“This is our task and our Function—to give voice to the Voice for Truth—under the aegis of the Northwest Foundation for “A Course in Miracles,” so that all, no matter when, no matter where, may find Truth expressed, without process, and share it with others instantaneously, without process, because it is a Gift!

“This is our sole purpose.”

Today, telephone service was suspended for lack of payment. Today, no paycheck could be provided to Paul. And shortly it will be the electricity and other basic expenses which will come into question.

On the day before yesterday, Go-Daddy—the provider of the servers on which our website resides—was just barely paid on time.

Today, thanks to the seventeen contributions which were received since yesterday, telephone service was restored—but only the past-due amount could be paid. Arrangements to provide an extension for paying the current amount had to be requested because it’s due within the next seven days and there are other more pressing obligations.

This kind of experience is something most everyone can identify with, although hopefully not as extreme. And it is because of this that I am sharing it.

When I extend an invitation of support, the invitation is not a “business activity.” There is no corporation here with profitability as its bottom line, seeking your support in order to increase its presence, power, or influence in the world.

What is here are two individuals, just like you. Together, they have agreed to honor something in them which recognizes the need to give voice to the Voice for Truth and to do it on the terms the Voice for Truth reveals! They have thereby found themselves in the middle of a Movement—an educational Movement, a Movement of transformation, a Movement promoting Brotherly love amongst Brothers and Sisters Who don’t, at the moment, believe They can be referred to with a capital “B” or a capital “S” and are afraid of Brotherly love because it is an “unprotected” environment.

In other words, these two individuals find themselves in an environment which calls not only for them to change, but everyone who comes in contact with them.

Ask yourself, how do you do that? How do you restore Brotherhood between those who are conditioned to distrust each other? How do you restore within yourself, and inspire in others, communion with one’s divinity and yielding to It—the Holy Spirit—when the “spirit of independence” proudly waves its flag in commanding invitation to everyone, militantly inspiring allegiance to it because of the fearful mindset of the Sons and  Daughters of God who have forgotten Who Their Father is, and Who They are as well?

How do you stand unmoved in the presence of that “spirit of independence,” of its resistance to the caring which is the absence of defense, the embrace which is the absence of egotism, and the love which is the end of Independence?

You do it with faith! You stand without defense—wealth, respect, confidence, worth, dignity—acquired lovelessly to use for self-protection and control. You stand in innocence derived from God—your Birthright.

These two individuals have agreed to engage with me, and with you, without controls, guarantees, leverages or a back-up plan. But they are just like you in all respects. When they look at everything without me, they see the same invitations to doubt, fear, retaliate, sweetly seduce cooperation, and mostly “cope with” whatever the situation might be, just as you do. When they look at everything with me, they see and hear exactly what I’m telling you right now and they give voice to the Voice for Truth . . . as Paul is doing . . . and they live the life they have been living for the past thirty-six years—changing, sorting out, letting go, and being in a new way.

I began by sharing the interruption of the phone service, the lack of a paycheck for Paul, and didn’t mention the $5,000 obligation which needs to be met tomorrow. I also spoke of wealth as a defense, because wealth refers to accumulated money—possession—and possession for possession’s sake is meaningless.

You see, love expressed because possessions make one feel safe is not innocent. It is not a Gift. It does not arise out of an emptiness which God or the Holy Spirit has filled in the space made available by one’s silence, one’s uncluttered presence of mind called “attention.” It is nothing more than controlled kindness. And even the definition of that “kindness” is a mutual agreement, a way of behaving which is calculated to have a certain effect because that is the cultural or social meaning everyone has agreed upon. You see?

Money is not the root of all evil. Selfishness is. Money is a temptation to those seeking the power of “wealth” for self-protection, but money is benign, neutral. Its real Meaning lies in its serving the expression of Love. In this context, money is not the focal point. Brotherhood is. The capacity to feel need, coupled with curiosity to know what meets the need, brings forth the motivation, as I said yesterday, to embrace the fulfillment.

What is the gift that you would extend to your Brother? That which you know will meet the need because you are just like him. If he needs a coat because he is cold, your experience of being cold and having experienced the warmth of a coat will cause you to help see to it that he has a coat, instead of a spiritual platitude, or a “word of encouragement” which saves you from having to be too involved.

What is the gift you would give to a Sister? A degree of humility which, free of arrogance, acknowledges her worth—the simple down-to-earth recognition of God that she reminds you of because that’s what you’re looking for.

The gift is the confirmation of your clarity that lack is replaced by the “unprotected” environment of Love expressed, and then expressing it! Money becomes something Real when it follows—expresses—the leadings of Love.

My invitation to you to involve yourself, with us, in the extension of Love which we are engaged in, is an invitation to let your money become a means to an end, and not an end in itself—a movement, not an accumulation. That which meets the need of Love magnifies Brotherhood. That which meets the need of Love illuminates Brotherhood. That which meets the need of Love makes Brotherhood the point, and not itself.

It serves no purpose for Paul and Susan to sit on the edge of uncertainty even though being there is requiring more commitment to stay joined with the wisdom of the Voice for Truth—which has them face into the uncertainty and behave in a way which flies in the face of it, illuminating the Truth that promotes its correction, as they are doing right now.

It also serves no purpose for you to succumb to the siren’s song that says, “Why should I help them when I need help?” Instead declare, “If fulfillment of need is the rule for Paul and Susan, then it is for me, and I give my attention to discover how to embrace and receive it.” Mind you, you can’t just say the words and enjoy the sound of them. Actually give your attention within. Still your conditioned resistance to yielding to the Holy Spirit, the Father, or me. And persist in neglecting to be faithless.

Now, as I said in the beginning, real practical needs exist right now to be fulfilled. Gift is the modus operandi of everything we do. It is what Paul and Susan must live with, and it is what everyone is invited to stop resisting. It is the learning everyone, including Paul and Susan, must incorporate into the Meaning of Life and dare to live, here and now. That’s the way Atonement happens. It is the only thing I can teach in this regard. And it is the only lesson worth learning. It is the foundation of Brotherhood.

Thank you again. Thank you for participating. And thank you for the blessing that we all are together.
