An Idea Whose Time has Come

An Idea Whose Time Has Come

                 ————-oOo————-

Dear friends,

Everyone continues, by means of their conscious and loving support, to increase the outreach of this work that Paul and I are engaged in . . . and doing it entirely on the basis of Gift rather than commerce. This may seem like a miniscule, meaningless and futile effort in the face of  the billions of dollars which flow through the coffers of Exxon and billionaire businessmen as they conduct hard-core commercialism and insist upon turning the meeting of needs into the generation of wealth instead of letting it be what it is—the extension of love.

But I promise you that “nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come,” and when one stands with one of those ideas, it is never useless or futile. It may take courage to do so, but the effort has only to do with focusing one’s attention, persisting in what is initially strange and difficult to grasp, and patiently tolerating the ridicule coming from those who do not understand at all.

What is the idea whose time has come? It is actually more than an idea. It is a divine Truth. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

It has been 2000 years since this was first shared. Why is now the time for this idea to come? Because the need for the extension of love has become too uncomfortable, and the fact that the generation and accumulation of wealth is not the answer is becoming clear.

And so, it is with gratitude that I reach out to all of you to say I recognize your willingness to practice the principle of “what you give, you get to keep”—that when you care enough for your brother to give, you will receive, and in the giving of what you receive, it’s yours to keep and have. Maybe you don’t yet do it every day in every encounter with your brother. Maybe you only do it here. But when it is done, it becomes the leaven that leavens the whole lump, and the whole illusion shifts. And so, I invite you to make the gift that meets the need, that meets the need, that meets the need . . . ad infinitum.

The 20th of the month is seven days away and by that date $7,000 will just barely meet the need to cover electricity, phone, high-speed internet access, server expense and the normal monthly costs to do the work we do.

Thank you to everyone whose support during the month of December met the needs and avoided the penalty on the property tax which was due.
